Digital Freedom Ltd (Box77.co.uk) General Processes and Everyday
Recommendations
This page aims to set forth the company's obligations, policy
and activity regarding CO2 emissions that its activities and trade
may create. The goal of our CO2 policy is to limit all unnecessary
CO2 creation as possible and to advise our users, clients and
resellers of simple environmentally friendly actions they too
can take.
Office Equipment, Hardware and Systems
You do not need an Imelda Marcos style collection of ipods and
gadgets. Only purchase new systems and products, on the grounds
that they are necessary or offer a greener alternative over their
lifetime.
You do not need to rival NASA to fire off an email. When purchasing
new PCs and other hardware, electrical devices etc examine and
compare power consumption and efficiency of products and choose
the most efficient for the task.
Your office doesn't need to be a multiplex cinema so limit monitor
/ display purchases and use to only those that are required, rather
than the largest that will fit into a given space.
Utilise any power saving options available in session such as
display power down after a few minutes of inactivity
Turn off and unplug all systems and electrical devices after
work. Do not leave systems on standby. It uses electricity and
poses a fire hazard.
General Business Practice
Locate your business in the most energy efficient premises as
possible and do not make unnecessary use of heating or air-conditioning.
Make use of energy efficient lighting and other measures.
Allow as many staff as possible to work from home, reducing commuter
travel emissions and the number of office systems required onsite
Limit the number of business journeys required wherever possible,
be they by car, bus, train or air. Video-conferencing saves on
both fuel and time.
Where any travel is necessary use foot, bicycle or public transport
as appropriate.
Have a responsible company car policy if one is required at all.
Car pools and efficient vehicles are essentials if your company
must provide car transport to staff.
